  Here
are some examples of various lighting situations. These samples
are taken from my most recent projects, "Line by Line"
and "Songwriters". Just follow the numbers on the screen
for an explanation of each scenario.
1&2-These
two interviews are Tracy Klas and Myrhh Larson, both singer/songwriters
in Portland. I like the nice contrast on opposing sides of their
face with the subdued background.
3-This
was a tough situation because I wanted to create some depth between
Tracey Bachman, and the area behind her. It was tough because this
was a very small space and only had room for one light and a reflector,
but we were still able to achieve good contrast and a nice balance.
4-The
challenge on this one was the mixture of the natural light coming
from the large window behind Janet Jacobson and the tungsten light
kit I had with me. I chose to let the natural light be the backlight
and wrap my light with a blue gel. It worked out very nicely, don't
you think?
5-Anyone
who shoots for a living knows how difficult it can be to light more
than one person. As you can see here, I did a pretty good job.
6-No
real challenge here.It just turned out nice
7-This
is your typical direct sunlight dilemma. The hardest task is using
a reflector without making your subject squint. Here, I used a silver
reflector and then a white diffuser on top of that.
8-Sometimes
when the sun shines bright overhead. Just place the subject, Tal
Bachman, in a shadow where you can grab some of that golden goodness
and bounce it back.
